Everything in your life is the sum of habits and hence healthy habits of success are so important. What you are working on, how fit you are, how happy you are, or how disciplined you are in some way is related to your routine or the actions you take. We are a collection of habits, and up to 80% of what we do daily comes down to what habits or patterns we have formed- some good, some bad. The goal in life should be to form healthy habits to improve the quality of our lives.
I always thought hard work leads to success. But one question that bothered me was that many people work hard, but not everyone is flourishing. My curious mind led me to research this more, and I read many books on habits and how smart habit building can change your life.
So many of you have asked how I keep my fitness, work, Instagram, blog, and personal lives managed, and my simple response is habits. Habits help me achieve my goals, take out time for the things I love to do- working out, dancing, spending time with the people I love, and traveling. But more than that, it keeps me disciplined and helps me achieve my goals.

Hiking is one of my passions- even on a trip I take out time to hike.
Here are my top seven ways to build long-lasting habits. Let me very clearly say that these points are not the only way to develop better habits- I am sure there are more, but these simple ways have helped me and can help you achieve your goals.
1. Choose a goal
I am a morning person, and I try to wake up by 5:30 AM or 6 AM (max) every day if I have not been out the previous night. So here, my goal is to hit the gym before work. The habit is waking up early. Waking up at 6 AM might not be sustainable for you since this is not your goal. Think about your goal- what you want to achieve in a day, what you wish to achieve: physically, socially, emotionally, financially, etc., and build habits to achieve them. It is a proven study habit that aligns with your goals will be a consistent one.
2. Start with something small
Sustained effort is essential when we are trying to build habits. If eating healthy is your goal, start with eating two healthy meals this week, make it three next week, and so on. Give time for yourself and your body to adjust to the change.

This has been my breakfast for 2 years now. Oats and fruits every morning
3. Do habit stacking for healthy habits of success
Habit stacking has worked wonders for me. James clear’s famous book- “Atomic Habits” has explained habit stacking so well. For example, if you want to listen to more podcasts- try to combine it with a habit that you are already doing, like listening to a podcast when driving. Habit stacking is a powerful technique if used correctly. If you want to know more about habit stacking- drop me an email.
4. Make the habit easy and enjoyable
If you want to work out in the morning, take out your gym clothes one night before on the side of your bed- so that the following day as soon as you wake up, you wear them. If you want to stay away from social media but have a habit of mindless scrolling- lock your screens with a focus app. Or if you’re going to eat healthily, have healthy snacks and food at home.
5. Track your habits
All the gym-goers know changes do not happen overnight. You have to repeat sets, sweat your ass out, and then after months of hard work, pain, and repetition, you see muscles- this is how a habit and its results feel like-Consistency is the key. But many of us lose track if we don’t have a way to track our progress. Hence, a system to monitor progress is so important that we do not slip into all or nothing mindset. Keeping a habit tracker feels highly satisfying as it keeps you accountable and shows you are making progress towards your goal. I have a habit tracker booklet as I am old school and love to write. Various online habit trackers are readily available if you are not that old school like me.

Multiple planners are easily available online.
6. Celebrate your small wins
When you celebrate your little progress, the whole goal seems meaningful, and you find yourself more motivated. I usually check-in at the end of the week to see what went well and what did not.
7. Keep motivated
I know it is hard to be on a routine and follow something consistently as life happens. The weekend comes up, and you have more work than expected or are anxious on a specific day. The whole game is about the mindset- there can be days when your mind will tell you not to go to the gym, or to eat that pizza slice, or to watch the entire season of a new show. But try to break down these barriers by journaling, writing your goals(why you need to follow a habit), and keeping an accountability buddy. Try to enjoy what you are doing, and it will become so much easier. Read my blog 8 Daily habits that changed my life to know about my healthy habits.

Consistency is the key to build healthy habits of success
I hope this post inspires you to start setting intentional habits to help you achieve your goals and dreams faster. What routine would you want to begin in your life? Also, please let me know what else you would love me to write about- any topics?
